Chapter 12: A Tribal Affair
Akolo: “If I had a jar of light, I would keep it by my bed at night, to remind me of you.”
Rainui: “You can start by pushing me in the swing…it is great for flabby triceps.”
Ahio: “I spend many hours standing in this ocean, spear in hand, sun beating down and rarely do I have fish to show for it.”
Tumata: “I wish everyone could hear the music in my heart, but I do not play an instrument.”
Everyone here has been so nice and hospitable. I met more great islanders and received more wonderful gifts in the Village Harbour. I count Rainui, Tumata, Akolo and Ahio all as friends now.
The Chief wanted to meet me. I felt like an ambassador.
Meeting Chief Manave was the highlight of my visit to the village. And that’s saying a lot because the entire experience was jammed-packed with highlight reel moments.
I had never felt so at ease around new people before. The Chief invited me to the Volcano Festival at the Hot Springs. I accepted. This place is the ultimate R and R spot. If I can’t unwind here, then I’m wound tighter than humanly possible.
