The Legend of the 12 Brides

THE WITHERED BRIDE
She is the first of the 12 Brides. Born under the sign of Aquarius, she is artistic yet mysterious. She became The Withered Bride when her husband-to-be died on the way to the church on her wedding day. She had no idea what had happened to him and when the news hit her, she couldn’t accept it. She continued to wait for him at the place where they first met, regardless the weather or the seasons, believing that he would come back for her. When the people found her body cold and stiff on the snow ground, she was surrounded by withered flowers, and her bridal dress looked almost like the withered flowers about her…

THE TORN BRIDE
She is the second of the 12 Brides. Though born under the sign of Capricorn, she is a torn and tortured soul with full of hate to the world. She became The Torn Bride when she was sadly married to the man she thought was nice and sweet. Her family was deceived by his wealth and power and pretence kindness and she had to pay the price when she discovered that not only he married her just to be famous for having the most wives in his village, but also she was abused sexually and physically by both her husband and the wives before her. Her death was caused by the first wife who tore her heart out right from her chest.

THE DOUBLE BRIDE
She, the third of the 12 Brides and born under the sign of Gemini, is playful and sweet at one occasion, then dark and evil at the other, which was how she became The Double Bride. Before, she had a twin sister and she and her sister both married the same man who worked as a soldier in the king’s courts. Her twin sister was sweet and nice, but she had high ambitions to be on the throne and often plotted terrible things to eliminate the king and get her husband to replace him (as The King trusted him very much and that His Majesty had no heir). When her evil plans have been discovered, she was sentenced to death and her vengeful spirit attached herself to her twin sister, making her a double personality person. Her poor sister then was condemned insane and sent to the asylum where she killed herself, intertwining her spirit deeper with the evil twin.

THE PROUD BRIDE
She is the fourth of the 12 Brides, with an air of dignity and pride among her wake under the sign of Cancer. She will not tolerate anything that defies her logic and would not admit it even if she was wrong. She earned her title as The Proud Bride when she married a very important person in a very high-classed state. Her husband’s influence towards the people of the lower classes influenced her to rule over them with an iron fist and forced them to succumb to her proud, arrogant ways. She cared nothing but herself and many came to feel distaste for her. Finally some of the people couldn’t stand her pride and arrogance and ambushed her when she was on her way to her relative’s house, making it look like a bandit robbery. They threw down any filthy thing that might ruin her pride at her and finally killed her in the most degrading way they could possibly think for her.

THE PRINCESS BRIDE
She is bright and cheerful and good at sweet-talking people to do her bidding as well as acting spoilt. In fact, she is so good at being spoilt, she got her title as The Princess Bride, the fifth of the 12 Brides. Born under the sign of Leo, she was only a rich commoner who charmed a prince to marry her and got herself to become sort of a half-princess. She had done her equal share of being good to the world, but she didn’t realize that her small spoilt attitude one day had got her into trouble. Her husband tried to win her request to get her a truly rare and expensive doll from India but caught a very serious illness on the way home. He died in the midway and the doll she requested came together with his body. She was so devastated and with people criticizing her behind her back about killing her husband, she was soon found dead hanging from a willow tree beside her husband’s grave, clutching the doll tightly in her arms…

THE ILLUSIONIST BRIDE
She, the sixth of the 12 Brides, is born under the sign of Virgo. She is cunning and witty, and very swift. She plays with illusion like she plays with her toys, which is why she became The Illusionist Bride. She was the bride of a very famous illusionist (some say she could be the wife of Harry Houdini or David Copperfield himself) and she had learnt almost everything her husband could teach her about illusions. Occasionally when her husband had to go somewhere else to perform, she would do her own simple illusions to the public or to entertain children. She soon got ambitious and decided to indulge herself in Black Magic to increase her ability in the illusion business. Her indulging in the Dark Arts got her into trouble when finally she was so engrossed in this Art that she lost control of her sanity and used her illusions to kill people. She was soon arrested and hung in the gallows.

THE WISE BRIDE
She, The Wise Bride, lives up to her name as being very wise and fair to the people around her, just like the child born under the sign of Libra. She is the seventh of the 12 Brides and acts older than her age, being wise and all. In life, she was The King’s wiseman’s daughter and like a counselor to The King when her father was busy about other things. She wasn’t too beautiful and all but The King fell in love with her just the same for she was smart and filled with wisdom. The other counselors of the castle were displeased at this for The King rather would listen to his wife than their advice. They decided to frame her for a crime she did not commit and The King was forced to sentence her to death. The day after she died, those counselors suddenly died in mysterious circumstances. Some say, the wife’s spirit sucked the brains out of the counselors which caused their death.

THE PERFECT BRIDE
She is the eighth of the 12 Brides and she is perfect in every way, like a Mary Sue figure. She, The Perfect Bride born under the sign of Scorpio, is perfect both physically and mentally. She walks perfectly, she talks perfectly and she acts perfectly. She is someone everyone would wish they would become. She wasn’t that of a perfectionist at first. She was trained to do so in order to be fit as a member of a high-classed family. She never liked being perfect at all. In fact, every perfection she was forced to endure was a torture. She may seem like a Mary Sue, but inside she hated it all the way. One day, out of curiosity, she sneaked out of the house dressed in just nice and simple clothes and mingled with the usual people and discovered the joy of being simply just herself. But she was soon discovered by her family and she was abused terribly to death for betraying the family tradition.

THE FROZEN BRIDE
She is the ninth of the 12 Brides, and is born under the sign of Sagittarius. She is cold, wicked and heartless, and has no emotion whatsoever, which led her to be The Frozen Bride. It was said that she was born, bred and married in a place as cold as Siberia where she had endured countless perils such as an abusing family, a tongue-lashing mother-in-law and a drunkard husband. All those torture had trained her to be cold and heartless and feel nothing for the world, as she thought that the world felt nothing for her anyway. She soon fled and married a kind ambassador. But that didn’t change her cold attitude. When her child was stillborn, her heart hardened even more and she used her power as the ambassador’s wife to spread her coldness around, starting from her own family. At her attempt to kill her final victim (her ex-husband), she was buried alive in an icy-cold avalanche.

THE BEAUTIFUL BRIDE
She is the tenth of the 12 Brides and, like her title as The Beautiful Bride, is truly a beautiful creature to behold. Born under the sign of Pisces, she is elegant, charismatic and of exceptional beauty. No one, not even the other Brides, could compete with her looks. Before, she was the apple of everyone’s eye and she was the prized jewel everyone wants. Everyone wants to marry her and take her as their lawful wedded wife, but it was a five-by-five simpleton who didn’t look too handsome nor too smart either that had won her heart. Everyone was jealous and unsatisfied for him to be able to marry such a beautiful bride that people started to make his life uneasy. Someone even accused him of using Black Magic to charm her into his heart and requested authorities to arrest him. This also happened to other people that had taken her as their wife, until finally she couldn’t stand it anymore. She peeled off the skin of her face before throwing herself into the sea.

THE WIZARD BRIDE
She is the eleventh of the 12 Brides and she has the most power of all the Brides, for she is The Wizard Bride. Born under the sign of Aries, she has a majestic aura at her wake and has more magical powers than you can ever imagine. In life, she was adopted by a normal family who only discovered her abilities when she was 5 years old. She soon found out about her real family background as a whole family of wizards (even women in her family are considered as wizards). She could do loads of stuff like reading palms, predicting people’s future, bending spoons, chanting spells and cursing people. At first her whole purpose of using her magical powers was to do good for the people and many people liked her (she was even engaged to a wealthy merchant), but the religious men hated her powers and influenced the people to turn against her, saying that her powers came from the Devil. They all gathered around her on her wedding day, arrested her and burnt her on a stake, her wedding clothes and all. Before she breathed her last, she swore to become the most evil and strongest wizard ever lived and cursed the people who betrayed her to suffer 100 years of famine.

THE WOODEN BRIDE
She is really in touch with nature and really loves the flora and fauna of life. She is more in touch with the trees, which is what people born under the sign of Taurus would generally be. She is called The Wooden Bride because at first she was born and bred in a family of carpenters. When she somehow discovered the wonder of wood and the nature of its origins, she immediately fell in love with it. She had nothing against her family cutting wood to build things to earn a living, but if she could, she would definitely save a few trees and flowers at her wake. She got in contact with nature so much that she somehow had the ability to communicate with the plants. She was rendered crazy and was forced into an asylum. It was a devastating thing to do too, because she was almost getting married. After about 3 days in the asylum, she somehow escaped through a certain magical help from the nature she took care of and when the people tried to look for her, they found her stuck on a willow tree—dead—her body became part of the tree bark.

A Wish Come True (A Short Story)

I woke up with a start when I found myself in a very unfamiliar place. The bed I was lying on was grand—an English-quilting blanket and 2 soft pillows with flowery laces. The whole place was fit for a king! Suddenly the door opened and there stood my dream prince: Katsuya Kimura! I gasped in astonishment for he was actually a cartoon character. I did not know that he really exist. “Wake up, dear,” he said and pulled off the blanket and handed it to a woman who looked like the maid. “You will be late for work.” “Work?” I asked. “Yes! Work! Have you forgotten your own comic workhouse, baby dear?” Comic workhouse?! I…I have became a cartoonist? That was my wildest dreams! Being a cartoonist! I undressed and changed into my beige T-shirt and black trousers at once and hurriedly finished my breakfast. Katsuya drove me to the workhouse. My, my, was it big! I’ve never seen a bigger place than this! Katsuya kissed me and said, “See you at four, OK, baby?” I blushed scarlet. I always wan...

Hans and Hilda

Once upon a time there was an old miller who had two children who were twins. The boy-twin was named Hans, and he was very greedy. The girl-twin was named Hilda, and she was very lazy. Hans and Hilda had no mother, because she died whilst giving birth to their third sibling, named Engel, who had been sent away to live wtih the gypsies. Hans and Hilda were never allowed out of the mill, even when the miller went away to the market. One day, Hans was especially greedy and Hilda was especially lazy, and the old miller wept with anger as he locked them in the cellar, to teach them to be good. "Let us try to escape and live with the gypsies," said Hans, and Hilda agreed. While they were looking for a way out, a Big Brown Rat came out from behind the log pile. "I will help you escape and show you the way to the gypsies' campl," said the Big Brown Rat, "if you bring me all your father's grain." So Hans and Hilda waited until their father let them out, ...

I've Learned...
