It had happened so fast. The slapping of boots on the pavement as he rushed towards me. The one sharp blow to my forehead that had sent me reeling. The laughter as my mind went hazy and he scooped my limp form into his arms.
Now I was stuck here in his basement, the same man would I had lived across the street from for ten years. I can’t believe I hadn’t noticed the warning signs before: active at night, large and bloody smile, the strange black trash bags he would load in his car every Tuesday.
As I lay strapped down on the table, I can’t help but feel as though I could have done something. I could have added a bit more garlic to my diet or bathed myself with holy water. But that time had passed now.
A toothy grin appeared from the darkness,
"Are you ready, my beauty?" the mouth hissed.
"I’ve had my doubts, but now I see what you really are!"
"Oh? What am I?" the voice asked.
"You are a vampire! I was skeptical at first, but now I understand."
The grin grew into an even larger smile as the figure set a handsaw on the table beside my quivering body.
"Oh no, my dear, you have it all wrong," his face moved in close as he whispered into my ear; the smell of blood lingering on his breath, "I am 100% human."
