The Window

The room was dark.  Isn’t that how all scary stories are supposed to start?  But seriously, the light shattered when it walked by the window.  I don’t really know what to think right now, it’s still out there somewhere, probably watching me.

I just woke up at three a.m. about five minutes ago to some kind of cross between a howl and the shrill scream of a child playing, almost like the shout a rabbit might make if it were being eaten by a fox.  Four short screams, close by, and then a shadow projected onto my window.  A slinking, emaciated shadow.  The light burst, glass fell to the carpet below.  I’m only writing this because I figure it will help me calm down.

It walked by again, walked isn’t really a good term to use, more like crawled, or slithered almost.  I’ve never seen anything move the way it does, almost seductively, smooth and calculated.  Again, just a shadow, no real answers.  It’s probably one of the neighbor kids, right?

Yeah, I wish it were the kids…
