I thought I saw something, just beyond the darkness, I could’ve sworn… He, or at least I think it was a he, but I’m not sure, had formless face.
Where the eyes were, there were only indents covered by skin. It was naked, but all I could see was drooping formless skin. Its arms were long and its fingers dragged along the floor as it turned toward me. I could’ve sworn that it looked right at me, or at least it would have, if it had any eyes.
I closed the door as soon as I saw it. I must be seeing things. This can’t be happening, right? There is no such thing as monsters. That… that… thing. It looked just like the drawing my daughter gave me the night before. She said it was the boogey man… something along those lines.
No, no, I’m just scaring myself. Coffee before bed was never a good idea; it’s got me seeing things. I must’ve just imagined the creature from her drawing… yeah, that’s it. There’s nothing to be worried about.
Maybe if I just close my eyes and doze off…
…*knock…. knock*..
“Yes honey?”
I answered the knock, out of habit. I must’ve fallen asleep; I had been so worried about what I saw. My daughter, Cecilia, was always knocking on my door to hop in my bed at night.
I thought she had grown out of it. But ever since her mom moved houses, she has done it almost every week. The divorce was tough on her, but the relationship was no good. Might as well let her in again, I know it’s tough on her.
I opened the door, my eyes still closed shut; I knew the room well enough and was too tired to open them.
Wait… isn’t Cecilia with her mom this week?
Oh god.
